How To Crochet A Men’s Beanie

Learn how to crochet a men’s beanie.  My favorite is to crochet a men’s beanie with a camo blend yarn. Give him a camo crochet beanie that he’ll be proud to be seen in.  I’ve made several men’s beanies for my family, including daughters. (Used the pink/green camo colors) Requests from nephews for a crocheted men’s camo beanie continue to come in.  The men’s camo beanie is exactally what your hunter or outdoors worker needs to keep them warm.

The easy crochet pattern for a mens beanie can be completed in just a couple of hours of your time.   This crochet pattern calls for the basic crochet stitches. As a beginner crocheter you will find it very easy to follow.  For the advanced crocheter, you will find that this crochet pattern can easily be memorized.

Bernat carries a camouflage sox yarn that works up a wonderful crochet beanie.     You can shop yarn at How To Crochet A Beanie to find just that. One skein of yarn will be all you will need.

Let’s begin:
Basic Stitches: chain (ch)
Slip stitch (sl st)
Single crochet (sc)
Crochet hook: Size I or J    As a beginner, I suggest a J crochet hook because you tend to crochet a little tighter as you learn your technique.
Chain (ch) 4, Slip stitch (sl st) to join round
Row 1: Chain (ch) 1 work 7 single crochet (sc) in joined chain for a total of 8 single crochet (sc) join with a slip stitch (sl st)
At this point, as a beginner, mark this as your  beginning point.  You can easily do this with  a small safety pin.  They are easy to work around and easily moved.
Row 2: Chain (ch) 1 and single crochet (sc) in the same stitch, work 2 single crochet (sc) in each stitch around for a total of 16, join with slip stitch (sl st)
Row 3: Chain (ch)1 and single crochet (sc)  in same stitch. * 1 single crochet (sc) in next, 2 single crochet (sc) in next. Continue from * Join with slip stitch (sl st).  Move your beginning marker.
Row 4: Chain (ch) 1 and single crochet (sc) in same stitch. * 1 single crochet (sc) in next, 2 single crochet (sc) in next. Continue from * Join with slip stitch (sl st).
Round 5: Chain (ch) 1 and single crochet (sc) in same stitch,  *1 single crochet (sc) in next 3 stitches, 2 single crochet (sc) in next. Continue from * Join with slip stitch (sl st).  Move your beginning marker.

This is where you will begin to stop increasing the width of your beanie. (If you’re crocheting for someone with a slightly larger head, repeat another round of round 5)

Now all you do is continue a single crochet around and around until you have the length that you’d like.  You don’t have to remember your beginning point after this because using the single crochet on the continuing rounds is a very forgiving pattern.  When you get the length you desire on your men’s camo beanie, cut approximately 5 inches from your work, pull your yarn through your loop and pull firmly.  This will secure the stitch from unraveling.  Weave the remainder of your yarn into the inside of your work (approximately 2 inches of yarn) Tie off onto another stitch on the inside. Cut the remainder off.

There you have it.  You have completed your men’s camo beanie as you learned how to crochet a beanie.  You can use this pattern for just about any person you desire to crochet a beanie for.  You’ll just need to adjust you “increasing” rows, add one or two more for a larger head.  You may only need to go to Row 3 or 4 for a baby beanie or a child’s beanie.

Your next step you can learn how to crochet a scarf to match your beanie.
